  • I began my training journey in August 2012 with weight training for football before transitioning to calisthenics for the wrestling team that October. Sometime the following January, I came across a video of a boys gymnastics team. Something clicked with me in that moment, and so I began looking for an online gymnastics program as I didn’t have access to a gymnastics facility at that time. However, there wasn’t a lot of info on the internet about attaining those skills at the time — let alone the skills I was seeing performed in the video.

    As bodyweight training became more popular over the following years, I tried multiple online gymnastics-style programs (2014-2022) — but didn’t enjoy or stick with any of them. I actually made the most progress using free resources from different websites & YouTube videos combined w/ my own programming and achieved all of my physique & flexibility/mobility goals. However, I never came close to my strength goals (rings). During this time, I also became a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, & gymnastics coach.

    After leaving college in 2018, I went on a career detour trying to break into the film industry. I made several short films — improving my cinematography & camera skills with each, but after 6 years of chasing that goal, I got nowhere and reached one of the lowest points of my life from late 2021 - early 2024. And so, I took a big step back — reevaluating my goals and what I really want in life. After some time and speaking with close friends, I thought why not combine my two loves — bodyweight training & film.

    And thus Coach B. was born.

    I now use my knowledge & experience to coach myself & others towards the physique, strength, & mobility of a gymnast.

  • As every person is different and starting at different points in their training journey, there is no one, correct answer.

    As a general guideline:

    • For basic-intermediate level exercises (i.e. push up & pull up variations, l-sit, back lever, pistol squat, etc): 3-6 months

    • Handstand (freestanding & pressing): 3-12 months

    • Advanced (iron cross, ring planche, etc.): 6-24 months

    Other factors include:

    • The skills being trained

    • Number of skills being trained at a time

    • Consistency

    • Nutrition

    • Sleep

    • Effort at each workout

    • Training plan & progression efficiency

    • Individual strengths, weaknesses, injuries, etc.

    • Flexibility & mobility deficits

    Some will take more time, others less. What’s important is that we understand we’re here for the long run — not a quick fix. Training is a tool to keep our bodies healthy for a lifetime.

    • Rings (w/ enough overhead & surrounding clearance)

    • Pull Up Bar & Parallettes (can substitute rings for some pulling & pushing exercises)
